Hair growth is stimulated by hormones, that’s why in puberty when your hormones are changing and increasing you start to develop more hair. A continuing high level of hormones can cause excessive hair growth, this can be common within a family, but if the person has vastly more hair than their relatives there maybe an underlying condition that is contributing to it, such as polycystic ovary syndrome in women.
